Help for transcribing your notes
According to the makers of Transcrivia, dictaphones are yesterday's news. While that may be pushing it somewhat, it's true that many people have to transcribe their recordings after they're made.
Transcriva aims to transform the mechanical chore of transcribing audio recordings into text into a more natural, process. Transcriva features a chat-style interface that produces very clear transcripts but doesn't rely on inaccurate voice recognition software. Instead, it integrates with QuickTime to make transcribing notes as easy as possible for you.
What's nice about Transcriva is that it always links to the audio that you've transcribed so you'll never hunt around for where you got that quote or sound-byte from. You can control the speed of the audio and associate actors within the audio to the text. So for example, there's no need to keep entering someone's name when transcribing what they've said - just click on their identity instead.
Exporting is surprisingly limited however. You can export to Word and RTF but there doesn't seem to be any other formats supported. One unique feature of Transcrivia is that it supports USB pedals for controlling your audio and entering text. The likelihood of anyone actually owning a USB foot pedal is another question but the option is there if you need it.
Transcrivia is an ideal tool for the overstressed secretary, journalist or minute-taker that needs a clear, quick and logical note taking system.
